Karkaeology: The Karkus vs Zeg the Dalek
The early Karkus stories are, of course, where it all began. This story was another joint effort - Alden Bates did the storyline and named the planet, but I think I suggested the Dalek adversary and cast a Slyther and a Vaaga/Varga/Vaarga plant as the unnamed henchmen. There's a subset of Karkus characters who look a bit 'off'. This was the early days of the internet, and Who guidebooks were becoming good - but weren't the sometimes amazing troves of detail and image that you see today. When the Howe, Stammers, Walker 'decades' volumes came out, and after them Timeframe, the meagre resources I had courtesy of Peter Haining's 25 Glorious Years and a slowly growing collection of DWMs ballooned. But still some aberrations slipped through with these guys. Thre are two versions of the Syther model, and mine follows neither (I drew a more accurate one once - it was terrifying!) Who knew what a V-plant looke like back in the late Nineties? Probably only a handful of local fans - so I made my own. Zeg has returned - and will return, many times to pester the Karkus and his own kind, and his henchmen will prove most enterprising in their own ways. As I say, I like these early stories; they're less complicated and really set things on a course.
I really also liked the Ginsu knives panel. The weight is a bit wrong, though.
Thanks, Alden!
